Chasten Gold's Legal & Social Justice Resource Center provides educational resources, community guides, and trusted referrals that help individuals and families better understand the legal system, advocate for themselves, and access organizations that promote justice, equity, and opportunity throughout California.

Learn about housing rights, workplace protections, civil rights, discrimination laws, and legal resources available throughout California.

Legal Services of Northern California provides free civil legal assistance to low-income individuals and families across Northern California. Their attorneys help clients with housing disputes, public benefits, consumer protection, healthcare access, domestic violence matters, education issues, and disaster recovery. LSNC also offers community education workshops and legal self-help resources that empower residents to understand and exercise their rights.

Legal Consultation Meeting

The Sacramento County Public Law Library provides free legal research resources, educational workshops, legal forms, and self-help information for the public. While the library does not provide legal advice, it helps individuals better understand legal procedures involving family law, probate, landlord-tenant issues, small claims, and estate planning. The library serves as an excellent starting point for individuals navigating the legal system independently.

California's Judicial Branch offers one of the most comprehensive legal self-help websites in the country. Residents can learn about divorce, child custody, restraining orders, eviction, debt collection, probate, guardianship, traffic matters, and many other legal topics. The site includes step-by-step instructions, court forms, videos, and multilingual resources designed to make the legal system easier to understand.

Disability Rights California is the state's federally designated protection and advocacy organization for individuals with disabilities. They provide legal advocacy, educational resources, investigations, and policy work to protect civil rights and improve accessibility. Their services address discrimination, education, healthcare, housing, employment, voting rights, and independent living.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California works to defend constitutional rights and civil liberties through litigation, advocacy, education, and community organizing. Their work includes protecting free speech, voting rights, immigrant rights, racial justice, LGBTQ+ equality, criminal justice reform, reproductive freedom, and government accountability. They also publish extensive Know Your Rights materials available to the public.

California Rural Legal Assistance provides free legal services to low-income Californians throughout rural communities and underserved populations. Attorneys assist with labor rights, agricultural worker protections, housing, education, healthcare access, public benefits, and environmental justice. CRLA also advocates for systemic policy improvements that strengthen communities across California.

The Sacramento Mediation Center helps individuals resolve disputes outside of court through affordable mediation and conflict resolution services. Programs address landlord-tenant disagreements, neighborhood conflicts, workplace issues, family disputes, and small business concerns. Their services encourage respectful communication while reducing the emotional and financial costs associated with litigation.

WEAVE is Sacramento's primary provider of crisis intervention, legal advocacy, counseling, and support services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. The organization offers emergency shelter, legal advocacy, restraining order assistance, counseling, children's services, and prevention education. Their compassionate services help survivors rebuild safe and healthy lives.

Opening Doors serves refugees, immigrants, survivors of trafficking, and underserved populations throughout the Sacramento region. Services include immigration legal assistance, victim advocacy, housing support, employment assistance, financial education, and family stabilization programs. The organization promotes self-sufficiency while advancing equity and inclusion for diverse communities.

Residents can learn how to report fraud, access legal resources, protect personal information, and understand California laws. The website also offers educational materials that help Californians make informed legal and financial decisions.

The department investigates discrimination complaints, provides educational materials, enforces California civil rights laws, and offers guidance regarding workplace harassment and fair housing protections. Californians can also file complaints directly through the agency.
